"The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson
This is what precisely reflects Surya’s journey with Tecnotree.
Surya Sivaram is the HR Manager and has about 15 years of experience in the HR profession. She has been inspiring everyone with her excellent work and developed herself to support all HR functions and business units. We asked Surya to share more about her journey, professional experience and passion.
Q. How will you describe your corporate journey?
A decade and a half ago, I snubbed my nose at making electrical transformers. My transition from an Electrical Engineer to HR happened in 2006 as I got married and relocated to Bangalore and ended up joining a US-based e-publishing company as HR executive.
Way back in 2011, I got an opportunity to join Tecnotree as a recruiter on a temporary role. The warm and friendly welcoming team made me feel comfortable at work and the mercury level of excitement was sky-high. I soon progressed into a Lead Recruiter role, and then HR Business Partner and Learning & Development.
Over the years, I have had the opportunity to play so many interesting roles. They are tapping into all the skills that I acquired in my previous roles. I’ve experienced a fast journey over the last ten years, and I feel lucky to have such an all-round involvement in the HR function. Every day brings a new challenge, a new opportunity, and a new reward.
Q. What do you admire the most about Tecnotree?
The unique thing about Tecnotree is the sheer sense of camaraderie and the true care behind that. I always admire the support that each employee receives from the company, the learning at work – that helps them develop their career.
Q. What are the critical traits that make you stand out in your career?
The driving factor in my career has been a passion for my work and positive work culture at Tecnotree. With each passing year, I realize how fantastic the company is – inspiring and motivating me to work with passion and providing me with great learning opportunities!
Tecnotree is on acceleration – its business and employees continue to grow despite the pandemic. There has been massive turn-around of results in the last 18 months and while shifting gears, we have put our values at the forefront of what we do. I consider myself fortunate enough to have encountered such talented, inspiring and enthusiastic leaders who I’ve always found committed to excellence.
Q. What keeps you motivated and energetic other than work?
In my leisure time, I love spending time with my son and cooking authentic Kerala dishes, this is inherited from my mother. I also have a big treasure of heirloom cookware and clay crockery. Another thing which I enjoy is reading. I read anything and everything that gives me a piece of knowledge or information.
Q. If not HR, what you would have been doing?
I would have done what I was doing before I joined HR - Teaching. I believe that a teacher plays a very important role in developing society. They build a warm environment, mentor, and nurture students, become role models, and listen & look for signs of trouble. The responsibility of an HR is a superset of that of a teacher.
